Calvin John Schupner, known to all as Cal, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home and into the arms of our Lord on August 19, 2023 at the age of 88.
Cal was born to Harry and Catherine Schupner on May 20, 1935 in Nyack, New York. He spent the majority of his childhood years in New York state. He had one sibling, his older sister Marion.
Throughout his life, Cal’s great passion was baseball and specifically the Brooklyn Dodgers and Jackie Robinson. He frequently spoke of the day he saw Jackie Robinson in person play the first game of his second season. He spent countless hours listening to his beloved baseball on the radio and pretending to be an announcer calling the games. Cal spent his entire life following baseball, loving the game itself, the statistics involved, and playing fantasy league with his friends and family. He and his son, Glenn, shared this love of the game and enjoyed a closeness and a bond like no other.
Cal became a devoted follower of Jesus for the last 50 years. His faith grew, year after year and he was known as a mentor and advisor to countless other men. He and his wife, Madalan, hosted a small group in their home for years and epitomized the teachings of Christ in their testimony and hospitality. Cal often said that Jesus changed him into the man he became and everyone that knew him would agree that he walked the talk of a Jesus follower. He started every single day in devotion, prayed without ceasing, and gave thanks to his heavenly father for every blessing in his life. He loved his church family at 12 Stone and cherished the friends he made there over the past 22 years.
The love of Cal’s life is his wife, Madalan who remained by his side as his loving partner and best friend for over 65 years. Where you saw one, you saw the other. They were inseparable and inspired so many others through their love.
Cal is survived by his loving wife, Madalan Schupner; two children, Glenn Schupner and Carrie Brandt; three grandchildren, Kevin Brandt, Kathryn Kirks, and Garrett Schupner; and four great grandchildren, James Kirks, John Kirks, Anna Kirks, and Grady Schupner.
Cal’s life was a testament of love, devotion, hard work, and the power of prayer. His memory will be cherished forever by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 3:00pm at 12 Stone Church, Lawrenceville Campus, 1322 Buford Drive, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
