Carease Truitt Jones

June 23, 1929 — May 22, 2025

In Loving Memory

Carease Truitt Jones, age 95, of Suwanee, GA, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones on May 22, 2025. She will be remembered for the quiet strength of her faith, her deep love for her family and her southern hospitality. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and most recently a great grandmother.

On June 23, 1929, she was born to Floyd and Lucille Truitt of Durant, MS. In 1946, she graduated from Durant High School where she was recognized for both her intelligence and her beauty. After attending Holmes Junior College in Goodman, MS, she went to work for the Veterans Administration in Vicksburg, MS.

In 1954, she married Henry Douglas Jones. In 1956, they welcomed their first child, Doug Jr. Later that year, they moved to Atlanta, GA where daughters Jody, Melanie and Allyson were born, completing their family. After many years as a full-time mother and homemaker, she returned to work as the Bookkeeper for Druid Hills High School where she was admired for her dedication and professionalism. She retired in 1993 after 20 years of service.

As a longtime member of Peachtree Road United Methodist, she instilled in her children a deep spiritual foundation. In 1993, she and Douglas moved to Suwanee to be closer to the grandchildren where they found a new church home at First United Methodist of Lawrenceville.

Carease found joy in reading books, solving crossword puzzles and sudoku, playing bridge and solitaire, and working in the yard. She was a fan of the Atlanta Braves, the Georgia Bulldogs and professional tennis. Like many of her generation, she loved Elvis Presley and enjoyed his music and movies. As a gifted cook, her meals were more than food. They were expressions of love, comfort and tradition.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Lucille Truitt; her sister, Joyce Cooper; and her husband, Douglas Jones. She is survived by her four children, Doug Jones Jr. and wife Teresa; Jody Jones; Melanie Piefke and husband Steve; Allyson Sims and husband Erik. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Taylor and Jake Piefke; Aubrey Sims and Amelia Sims Pace; one great grandchild, Poppy Piefke; and four nephews, TJ, Trey and Ted Jones and Minton Cooper.
