Charles (Chuck) E. Lanphear, 75 years of age, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away on August 17, 2023.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, son of Charles and Anna Marie Lanphear. Chuck had three sisters, Phyllis, Janet and Carole. After completing Mendel Catholic High School, he attended Lores College in Dubuque, Iowa.
Chuck began his career in the insurance industry, which took him to California. From California he continued his career with Transport Indemnity Insurance to manage a new branch in Atlanta. This is where he and Karen met, then married in 1984. Together they both enjoyed what they loved doing best… playing tennis, trips with the Atlanta Ski Club, get-togethers with friends, vacations, road trips and travels abroad. He then had a job opportunity in Jacksonville, Florida with Carolina Casualty Insurance. This is where their first son Kevin was born and then Christopher two years later. After enjoying the beaches, sunshine and life in Florida, years later Chuck and the family moved back to the Atlanta area where he joined AIG. He continued his specialty of transportation insurance in claims, mediations and settlements, until retirement.
Throughout his years with us, Chuck’s enjoyment and leisure time included running the Peachtree Road Races or other organized 5K or 10K events, coaching his son’s sport teams, plus Scout activities with them. We are lucky enough to have both adult sons living in the Atlanta area, and currently have two grandchildren, Kamila and Tyler. Chuck would fill his days after retirement enjoying them plus took on volunteer opportunities within our neighborhood or out in the community. He was also actively involved in recovery organizations, meeting many diverse people along the way. Chuck opened his heart to everyone, was willing to share what he could for comfort and support. In addition to caring for our granddaughter during preschool years, he loved playing pickle ball, especially because of the friendships that became dear to him. He was able to play until his final months and was always a winner to us….11 – 9, GAME OVER….
Chuck would want to be remembered as a compassionate person, a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. He was an avid supporter of many charities and non-profits, to include his church, Wounded Warrior Project, Salvation Army, Nar-Anon and local recovery organizations. In lieu of flowers, he would rather that you donate to any charity of your choosing in his memory.
Mass will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 319 Grayson Hwy, Lawrenceville, GA 30046, at 2 p.m. on September 15, 2023.
