Charles “ Chuck” H. Abrams , 93, of Lilburn, Georgia passed away Saturday evening, February 13 2021 after a brief illness.
Son of Harry and Mary Abrams, Chuck was born November 10, 1927. Always active as child, he began working at age 13 in the lumber industry which eventually became his lifetime profession. After graduating high school, Chuck proudly served in the US Army in Germany, Austria and Belgium until his Honorable Discharge in 1947. He went on to attend the University of Delaware where he was a member of the Varsity Gymnastics and Baseball teams, serving as the Baseball team Captain his Senior Year of 1953.
Forgoing pursing professional baseball, upon graduation from Delaware Chuck resumed his work in the lumber industry with Koppers, Inc. as a young supervisor. It was at the Orrville, Ohio plant where in 1954 he met a young office worker, Doris Jean Watts, who would become his wife for the next 64 years and travel the country beside him as he developed Koppers plant operations throughout the U.S.
Upon his retirement in 1988, Chuck and Doris spent much of their time being involved at Northwood C.C. in the Senior golf groups and following Auburn University athletics. Whatever free time they had left after golf was spent with their children and grandchildren and attending their athletic events and recitals.
Chuck is preceded in death by wife Doris and daughter Sharon Ann Abrams. He leaves his brother Vernon Abrams; daughter, Shirley Abrams Merriwether, her husband David and their daughters Katie ( husband Sean McGinnis), great-grandchildren Ruby and Merrit, and Karen ( husband Andrew Harmon), great grandchildren Hall and Watts; his son Steve Abrams , (wife Donna) and their sons Nick and Zach Abrams (wife Kate).
A private ceremony will be held March 7, 2021 for family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends U Need Club Inc. in Buford, GA
