With broken hearts the family of Charles D. Holloway of Norcross, Ga. announces his passing on September 26, 2022.

Charles was born on December 26, 1936 in Atlanta, Ga. to parents who have proceeded him James Howard Holloway Sr. & Louise Vivian Holloway of Cherry Log Ga.  Even though he was born in Atlanta, Ga. Charles spent most of his childhood in the mountains of Blue Ridge and Ellijay Ga. surrounded by his large family consisting of 52 first cousins.  He was a Christian who attended Moreland Ave Church of Christ & later moving his membership to Campus Church of Christ.

In 1955 Charles met a young lady by the name of Sherla Terry whom he went on to wed in 1956 and has stayed married to for the past 66 years.  They share two children, daughter Rhonda Whitt and son Greg Holloway (Judy Holloway).  Charles and Sherla share Grandchildren Anna Bennett (Brian Bennett), Mandy Lee (Russell Lee II) and Casey Holloway.  Great grandchildren Tyler Barnett, Russell (Tres’) Lee III, Kiernan Lee and McKenzie Lee.

It was in Charles’ early years through sawmilling, helping build barns and working gardens for family and friends that he developed his strong work ethic and value of family.

At the age of 18 he gained employment at the Lakewood General Motors plant where he became the youngest foreman ever at that time at the age of 21.  From there his career evolved to the Racing Tire Industry and Passenger Tire before opening his own tire / auto repair company in 1980 which he retired from in 2000.

Charles’ passions in life included fishing with anyone who would go (no matter what the weather conditions), going to his cabin in the mountains to relax and visit with family, watching his granddaughter play softball, spending time with family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.

Viewings will be held Thursday September 29 th at Wages & Sons Gwinnett Chapel Funeral Home from 4:00pm – 8:00pm located at 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy Lawrenceville, Ga. and Friday September 30 th from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at Bernhardt Funeral Home located at 163 River Street Ellijay, Ga.  The Memorial Service will be held Saturday October 1 st at Boardtown Church of Chirst at 1:00pm located at 2583 Lucius Road Cherry Log, Ga..

Flowers can be sent to either funeral home OR in lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made to Charles’ favorite charity Camp Sunshine who enriches the lives of Georgia’s children with cancer and their families through year-round recreational, educational and support programs.
