Charles Andrew Nash

May 12, 1944 — January 4, 2024

Charles Andrew Nash Senior, of Loganville,G.A., was peacefully welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven surrounded by loved ones on January 4th, 2024, at the age of 79, after a sudden decline in his health. Charles was born on May 12th, 1944 at Emory hospital in Decatur, Georgia. He graduated from Avondale High School in 1962, and was hired on with Western Electric in 1963. Charles married his high school sweetheart, Ava Nan Odum, in 1963. Charles and Nan were married for 60 years, and had two children: son; Charles Nash Junior and daughter; Lori Nash. Charles joined the United States Marine Corps in 1966 and was medically discharged at the rank of Sergeant in 1968. After his service in the Marine Corps, Charles returned to Western Electric until 1990 when he took an early retirement to go work for AT&T international. During his time with AT&T, Charles traveled to the Dominican Republic, Mexico City, Nicaragua, and Honduras where, with the help of locals, he erected some of the countries’ first 5ESS switches.

Charles, affectionately known as Choppy to everyone who loved him, lived an extraordinary life. He traveled the world and explored the oceans, lakes and rivers as a licensed scuba diver. Charlie was a legendary relic hunter and a world renowned artifact collector. He also had an entrepreneurial spirit, opening several successful businesses over the years including: Stone Mountain Relics, Nash Security, a line of video stores, and Stone Mountain Emporium.

Charles Nash was a Mason. He served as a twenty year Past Master of the Stone Mountain Masonic Lodge.

Choppy never met a stranger and was quick to make lifelong friends everywhere he went, and he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was always thinking of others and putting their needs first.

Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Smith; biological father, Hugh Dorsey Nash; father, Weyman Smith Sr.; and brother, Clifford Ortegus. Charles will be remembered by his loving wife, Nan Nash; children: Andy (Mickey) Nash and Lori (Steven) Cosgrove; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Weyman Smith Jr.; nieces and nephews; cousins; and a host of friends that are more like family.
