Charles (Ray) Raymond Piper Jr., age 76, passed away peacefully the morning of Tuesday,
December 23rd, 2025, in Tucker, GA. Born in Atlanta, GA, Ray was the son of Charles
Raymond Piper Sr. and Elsie Hays Piper. After graduating from Gordon High School, Ray
attended and graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He had a long career as a
Cobol Programmer with the Norfolk Southern Railroad. After he retired, he went on to work part
time at Eagle Eye Books. Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He lived in
Decatur, GA, for more than 40 years and was active in the community. He enjoyed reading,
spending time with friends and family, traveling, watching golf, playing trivia, cracking jokes, and
debating politics. Ray is survived by his wife Charlotte Piper of Decatur, GA, his daughters
Alison Sponaas (Erik) of Cumming, GA, Lauren Carney of Suwanee, GA, and Leslie Piper (Ian)
of Hermitage, TN, and his 5 grandchildren; Piper, Adelaide, and Andrew Sponaas; and Olivia
and Delilah Carney. He will be missed by many and remembered lovingly for his humor,
kindness, intelligence, and support.
Services will be held Friday, January 23rd, at 2pm at The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany,
2089 Ponce De Leon Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30307. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation
