Claudia Nell (Mills) Jordan

March 19, 1942 — March 9, 2024

Claudia Nell Mills Jordan, aged 81, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, March 9th, 2024, just a week shy of her 82nd birthday. Affectionately known as “Mimi” to her grandchildren, she grew up in Stone Mountain, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Nellie Murphy Mills, also of Stone Mountain, Georgia. She attended Stone Mountain High School, Wesleyan College in Macon and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dr. William A. Jordan, Jr, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, retired from a long career as Head of Ancillary Services at Gwinnett County School System, and her three sons, David Jordan and his wife Julia, of Decatur, Georgia, Andy Jordan, of Berkeley, California, and Paul Jordan and his wife Lorna, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and her eight grandchildren, Jessica, Spence, Connor, Murphy, Rachel, Mitchell, Jared and Sam, all of whom she loved dearly, and a great-grandchild on the way.

Claudia Jordan is remembered for her love of comics, birds, lighthouses, reading, and teaching. She lived many places, through her books, but fondly remembered her time as a child in New Orleans and in Thomaston, Georgia. She taught for many years as a high school English teacher in Dekalb and Gwinnett Counties, including a long tenure at Central Gwinnett High School and loved her students. In her retirement, she enjoyed the fresh air from her time in their Blairsville home in the mountains of North Georgia.

An announcement on a memorial service, at some point in the future, will be forthcoming.

Claudia Jordan read to her three boys often when they were children, and set them up for a lifetime of success and joy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in her name, to Reach Out & Read Georgia , a program that encourages early childhood reading.
