Cynthia Cooper

February 8, 1941 — January 11, 2025

Cynthia Cooper, age 83, of Lawrenceville, GA, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025. Born in Crozet, Virginia, Cynthia was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of many with her warmth, kindness, and a sense of humor that could light up any room.

Cynthia is survived by her son, Hugh Cooper, and his wife, Vicky Cooper; her daughter, Dawn Shein, and her husband, Gary Shein. She was a proud grandmother to Mason Cooper, Marlee Cooper, Zachary Shein (and his wife, Logan Shein), and Abby Shein, as well as a cherished great-grandmother to Jamie Shein.

An avid gardener, Cynthia had a particular love for Hybrid Tea Roses, which she nurtured with great care—often claiming that her singing helped them bloom (though the roses may have had their own opinions!). Her passion for people led her to a fulfilling career as a high school teacher in DeKalb County, where she inspired countless students with her dedication and enthusiasm, often reminding them that learning could be fun—especially if they could make her laugh.

A devout Christian, Cynthia held her faith close to her heart. She taught Sunday school at Harmony Grove United Methodist Church in Lilburn and McKendree United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville, remaining steadfast in her beliefs until her passing.

Cynthia’s love of sports was a lifelong passion, heavily influenced by her seven brothers. She was a competitive swimmer for Albemarle County in Virginia and a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves, Falcons, and Clemson Tigers. Her spirited cheers during games were legendary, often echoing through the neighborhood whenever her team scored—neighbors knew to either join in the celebration or brace themselves for the noise!

She often shared fond memories of her childhood at Miller’s Academy boys’ school, where her parents worked, painting vivid pictures of her early years and the mischief she and her brothers would get into—stories that always ended with a laugh and a reminder that she was the “good” child (though her brothers might have had a different take!).

Cynthia’s legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever in our hearts, leaving behind a trail of smiles, fond memories, and perhaps a few roses that will bloom in her honor.
