David Ross Coxworth, 92, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. He was born in his childhood home on January 8, 1933 in Chicago, IL, to Roy & Josephine Coxworth. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Elaine, his son, Darryl and his sibling, Linda Meloy. He is survived by his sister, Rita, who was the last person he called and talked to prior to his death. He is also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Doug & Kerry Coxworth, Dean & Kathy Coxworth & Lisa Coxworth. Dave has seven grandchildren: Cameron (Cody) Adler, Travis Coxworth, Alex Coxworth, Madison (Justin) Hood, Blake (Sienna) Coxworth, Caroline Coxworth, Caitlin, and one great-grandchild, Harrison Hood.
Dave lived a life of care and sacrifice; in his early days he chose to sleep on a cot in the kitchen so that his sisters could sleep in the bed. His sacrificial giving continued into parenthood as he drove a 1972 Corolla to work in downtown Atlanta so that his boys could drive their own cars. He met his wife while he was serving in the armed forces. Dave and Elaine could always be seen side by side as they attended many sporting events and activities showing support for their sons and grandchildren in all games and every special occasion no matter what others might have thought. Anything their family members were participating in, they made every effort to be there.
Dave’s family was very important to him. He showed this in many ways including maintaining a time share so that every July the entire family could vacation together. In addition to the timeshare the grandkids were invited for a one week stay at “Camp David”, that took place at their lake house in High Falls, south of town. During this time the grandkids had great fun doing arts and crafts, painting, fishing, hiking and taking field trips to Macon. Camp David adventures also meant a vacation time for Doug, Dean, Darryl and spouses.
Dave loved a cup, no several cups, of “HOT coffee” which he would enjoy 24/7. Having grown up on the south side of Chicago, he was a White Sox fan and a lover of Chicago pizza topped with lots of spicy italian sausage.
Dave began his military service in the Air Force but he retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 from the Army National Guard with 36 years service. He was given the rank of Honorary Chief Warrant Officer 5 which is a rank that is presented by a president. President Jimmy Carter presented his to him.
