Doris Doster Cotton, at the age of 85, passed away Tuesday morning, October 15th, at her home in Jonesboro, surrounded by her three daughters, Susan Stockton, Pam Jenkins and Melissa Gibson and her devoted nurse and family friend, Sheryl Massey. She is survived not only by her three daughters, but also by 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. She leaves behind two sisters, Joan and Sherry Doster, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. After retiring from Sears and Roebuck after 31 years of service, she retired from the Clayton County Board of Commissioners and in her semi-retirement years she served as a deputy clerk in the Jonesboro Courthouse where she fully retired from a few short years ago at the age of 81. She was a devoted matriarch to her family, a foster mom for many years, and a faithful and loving friend.
In this sorrow, we have hope knowing that in Heaven, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain…” (Revelation 21:4) We know that she is walking the streets of gold with no more pain, rejoicing with her family and friends who have been waiting for her arrival and that we will see her again, but until that day, our hearts will miss her deeply.
