She was born Doris Anna Brehm on January 3, 1934 in Baltimore, Maryland where she spent the early years of her life. After she married, she was best known in her family as the aunt who sent $2 bills and McDonald’s gifts certificates to her many nieces and nephews every Christmas. Ray’s career caused them to relocate several times over the years. They lived in Solon, Ohio; Hereford, Maryland, Chagrin Falls, Ohio; Greensboro, North Carolina; Houston, Texas; Marlton, New Jersey; Buffalo, New York and finally retired to Fletcher. Along the way, she was blessed with a large, loving family and extended family; extremely caring neighbors, and life-long friends.

Doris worked as a banking associate in several of the cities where she lived, but spent the later years of her life as a volunteer. She volunteered at the Lutheran Nursing Home in Buffalo, New York, at Habitat for Humanity in Buffalo, New York, at Camp Lutheridge in Arden, North Carolina, and at The Fairview Town Crier, Fairview Food Bank and Fairview Head Start Program. A devoted Christian, she also volunteered at the churches she attended over the years, usually as a treasurer or finance officer. Her final church home was Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Fairview, North Carolina. A memorial service will be held for her there on Saturday, November 18 at 2pm. Donations can be made to the church in lieu of flowers.
