Edith Ruth (Maasjo) Brooks, 90, passed away October 24, 2017, at Magnolia Center in Robinson, Illinois.
She was born June 11, 1927, in Nome, North Dakota to Emma (Torbenson) Maasjo and Christian Rudolph Maasjo.
She was married June 6, 1950, to Rev. L. James Brooks, and he preceded her in death in 2013. Their son, Jed L. Brooks, preceded them in death, as well as her parents and her siblings.
Edith is survived by four of her children: Ruth (Dana) Medcalf, Charleston, SC, John (Debbie) Brooks, Hutsonville, IL, Rebecca (Roger) Eddy, Hutsonville, IL, Timothy (Karen) Brooks, Grayson, GA, a daughter- in-law Carrie Brooks, Woodstock, GA, 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Edith graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. in 1948, with a degree in English and Music, where she was an accomplished pianist, soloist and traveled with the concert choir. She spent several years teaching in Wisconsin, North Dakota, Illinois and Georgia. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and served as a choir director, soloist, organist and Sunday school teacher for many years. Edith was a supportive pastor’s wife, dedicated mother and grandmother and proud great grandmother. She was born and raised in North Dakota, spent 10 years in Illinois and over 30 years in Georgia before moving to Brookstone in Robinson, Illinois.
Edith shared joy and the love of Jesus wherever she went and was a constant prayer warrior. Thankfully, she lived into her 90’s with good health.
The viewing will be held on October 29th, from 6-8 pm at Wages & Sons, Gwinnett Chapel in Lawrenceville, GA. Funeral services will be held 11 am October 30th, at Oak Road Lutheran Church in Lilburn, GA. With burial to follow at East Shadowlawn Memorial Gardens, Lawrenceville, GA.
