Edward Richard Burley Iii

We bid farewell to a true friend and beacon of light, Edward R Burley III (Dick) age 79 departed from this world August 29, 2025 at home in Stone Mountain, Georgia leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness.

He is survived by his loving wife Sue, brother John, and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.

If you were a friend of Dick’s you stayed a friend for life. He was a dependable, dedicated friend to so many and will be sorely missed.

Dick’s early years were spent in Park Hill, Kentucky where he lived with parents Miriam and Edward and brother John. The family moved to Amherst, New York where he participated on his high school free style swim team.

Swimming continued to be a life long passion for him and teaching countless children of friends the love of swimming was a highlight.

Dick attended and graduated from Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky in 1969. He moved to Georgia in 1970. Served in the Army Reserves from 1969 to 1974.

Dick had a great sense of humor and the most contagious laugh. He loved life and all animals. Dick fondly recalled a cockatoo named Zac. For motivation he taught him the phrase “Get to work, Dick” Zac repeated this phrase over and over for years.

Dick did indeed get to work in the dental supply and equipment business, opening his own company “Burley Dental” in Stone Mountain in 1984, Married the love of his life Sue in 2003 and together they successfully man Burley Dental until retirement in 2018.

He was very well known in the Georgia dental community and once added this memorable slogan to his business cards “If you don’t know Burley Dental, you don’t know Dick”

Although he is no longer with us, his wit, wisdom, and warmth remains with us always.
