Elvin Cecil Price, 87, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on November 8, 1938, in Bishopville, South Carolina, Elvin was the eighth of nine children of Ellie Edward Price and Carrie Modell Baker. He graduated from Bishopville High School and went on to build a remarkable life defined by family, faith, hard work, ingenuity, generosity, and an abiding curiosity about the world around him.
In 1969, Elvin founded Atlanta Attachment Company in the basement of his home after recognizing opportunities to improve the sewing equipment he encountered in his work. What began with an idea and a willingness to tinker grew into a company that became a leader in the sewing automation industry. Elvin's extraordinary mechanical mind allowed him to see solutions where others saw problems, and his creativity led to numerous patents and innovations. He remained at the heart of the company until selling it in 2017.
But Elvin's greatest accomplishments were never measured in business success, patents, or things he built. He was curious, kind, generous, and genuinely interested in people. He had a gift for making others feel valued and was always ready to lend a hand, solve a problem, or share what he knew. He loved UGA football, tinkering in his garage, collecting cars and motorcycles, and spending months on the road in his RV with his beloved wife. He also gave generously to organizations and individuals he believed in, including Eagle Ranch and the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation.
Elvin is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janet; sons Tim (Jerry Sealy), John (Cindy), Todd (Anthony Crosby), and Chris; and stepsons Jeff (Kelli) and Jon (Diana) Kane; brothers Ellie Jr. and Carroll; and sister Esther Singleton. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Raphael and Vernon; and sisters Louise Segars, Glenn Carter, and Nina Hall.
Elvin spent his life seeing possibility—in problems, in ideas, and, most importantly, in people. To those who knew and loved him, he was much more than a successful businessman and innovator. He was Papa. He was the person who encouraged, helped, taught, laughed, and believed in others. He loved deeply, gave generously, and left people better because he believed in them.
That may be the greatest legacy he leaves behind: not simply the things he built, but the people he built up.
His work on earth is finished, his faith is secure, and now he rests in peace.
