Ernest David Laib

October 22, 1951 — June 9, 2026

Ernest David Laib, lovingly known as "Ernesto" and "Alpha Dog," passed away on June 9, 2026, at the age of 74. A resident of Bethlehem, GA, Ernest was born on October 22, 1951, in Maryland.

Ernest lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, and unwavering devotion to his family. He earned his GED and later obtained certification in wastewater treatment. He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard as an engineman and received an honorable discharge.

For more than 40 years, Ernest built a respected career in the concrete industry, working as a superintendent whose skill, leadership, and knowledge earned the admiration of colleagues throughout his profession. So valued was his expertise that, according to family, the company where he worked closed its operations after his retirement. Throughout his life, he also worked as a fisherman on a shrimp boat and as an automobile mechanic.

Ernest enjoyed motorcycles, music, movies, video games, and building model airplanes. He was especially passionate about motorcycles and won numerous awards for his custom bikes at shows across the country. His adventurous spirit carried him far from home as he traveled extensively to provide for his family, and he proudly recounted sailing from the North Pole to the South Pole twice.

Those who knew Ernest remember him as reliable, organized, reserved, wise, and an exceptional listener. He was a devoted father and grandfather who made his family feel safe, loved, and well cared for. He willingly shared his knowledge with others, teaching valuable skills that helped many succeed. As a young man, he helped care for his younger siblings, and throughout his life he remained generous with his time and support for anyone in need.

Ernest was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Elmer Laib Jr., and his mother, Sarah Mae Bauman. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Laib; daughters, Sarah Sullivan and Lindsey Laib; granddaughter, Novella Haulk; sons-in-law, Nathan Haulk and Casey Sullivan; and his sisters, Susie England and Sandra Laib.

Though Ernest's presence will be deeply missed, his legacy of hard work, loyalty, generosity, and love will continue to live on through the family he cherished and the countless lives he influenced.
