Frances Screven Weatherly Obituary
Frances Screven Weatherly, who was born in Atlanta on November 15, 1921, passed away at the age of 102. She resided most of her life in the city of Stone Mountain, where she was a member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church and the Stone Mountain Womans Club. She was a graduate of Atlanta Girls High School and attended the University of Georgia, Atlanta Division (now Georgia State University).
Frances was the bookkeeper for Weatherly Appliance Company in Stone Mountain until her retirement in 1984. She also was a substitute teacher for the DeKalb County School System for many years. In addition, she was the founder of the Girl Scout troop in Stone Mountain. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and visiting the cabin at Lake Winfield Scott in the north Georgia mountains.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, T. J. Weatherly; her parents, Dupont and Iula Screven; her daughter, Diane Weatherly King; and her sister, Mary Ella Pattillo.
She is survived by her son, Thomas J. Weatherly, Jr. (Mary Lynn); her granddaughter, Lauren Weatherly McDow (Randy); and two great grandsons, Eston and Liam McDow.
A graveside service will be held at Melwood Cemetery, Stone Mountain, on Friday, October 4, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
