In Loving Memory of Garfield Anthony Dawkins (Lance)

October 16, 1964 – September 10, 2025

It is with heavy hearts, love, and care that we celebrate the life of Garfield Anthony Dawkins, affectionately known as Gary or Lance—a devoted father, son, brother, and friend who touched the lives of everyone he met.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica on October 16, 1964, to Maxine and Louis Dawkins, Lance began his journey surrounded by love and family. He moved to the United States with his brother Sheldon and father Louis to reunite with his mother, who had built a home for them in Brooklyn, NY. The family later settled in the Bronx, where Lance attended John Philip Sousa, and Mount St. Michael High School, excelling both academically and athletically as a member of the baseball and football teams.

After graduating high school, Lance attended SUNY College at Old Westbury, where he pledged and became a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Spring 1985 line. His fraternity brothers remained lifelong friends and a cherished part of his extended family.

Lance was known for his sharp mind and professional excellence. He excelled in his career, earning the respect of colleagues and peers through his intelligence, work ethic, and leadership. Outside of work, he had a deep love for cars, sports, and music—interests that brought him joy and connected him with others throughout his life.

Lance’s life journey took him across several states, where he built careers, friendships, and families. Though health challenges sometimes made it difficult for him to be fully present, Lance deeply loved his children, family, and friends, and always carried them in his heart.

In his later years, Georgia became his final home, where he lived close to his sisters, mother, and children. Being near family brought him comfort, connection, and peace in his final chapter.

Lance is survived by his beloved mother Maxine, sisters Renee (brother -in-law Ray) and Nicole, sister-in-law Keely, daughter Crystal, and sons Christian and Sheldon, granddaughters Mia Christine and Yara Noella, nieces Janae and Amaya, nephews Asahni, Amir, and Chase, and a host of beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity brothers.

He is predeceased by his father Louis Garfield Dawkins, brother Sheldon, and son Christopher, whose memories remain forever in our hearts.

Whether you knew him as Gary, Lance, Dad, Brother, or Friend, you knew someone who was full of laughter, wisdom, and generosity. His presence was magnetic, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
