Gary Dupree Yetter

March 8, 1945 — August 8, 2022

Gary Dupree Yetter, 77, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away on August 8, 2022.

Born in Charleston, South Carolina in March 1945, Gary moved to Macon, Georgia as a small child. He graduated from the University of Georgia with degrees in Elementary Education, culminating in a Specialist of Education degree in Educational Leadership. Gary moved to Gwinnett County with his family in 1989, where he took on the role of principal at Norcross Elementary School. When Kanoheda Elementary School opened, he became the principal there, eventually finishing up his lifelong career in education at Harmony Elementary School. Gary was passionate about education, believing that a good education could open any door for children in their lives.

In his free time, Gary loved woodworking and creating works of art. He loved to watch NASCAR and Formula One races, and he had an eidetic memory for the history of both sports. Gary was also very active in his church. He served as an elder at Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church, where he and his wife attended Sunday School and church each week. He was a devoted family man, believing that his children were his greatest accomplishment. He was always there for them, leading by example and modeling how to grow in Christ.

Gary leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years, Kay Yetter, of Lawrenceville, GA, and his two children, Shannon Yetter, of Atlanta, GA, and Amanda Yetter, of Cumming, GA, and his future son-in-law, Matthew Roesener, of Cumming GA, along with three grandsons: Chandler Roesener, Hunter Roesener, and Asher Roesener, all of Cumming, GA. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Skip and Debbie Yetter of Macon, GA; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Jill Yetter Meade and Larry Meade, of Byron, GA, and Sharyn Yetter Hutchens and Walt Hutchens, of Virginia.

A visitation for Gary will be held on Saturday, August 13 and funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 14. The family is asking that, given the current levels of COVID in Gwinnett county, all those who choose to attend please wear a mask while in the building.

The family is requesting that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
