Gene Carroll “G.C.” Ford

October 20, 1945 — August 19, 2024

Gene Carroll “G.C.” Ford, born on October 20, 1945, in Duluth, Georgia, passed away on August 19, 2024, in Roswell, Georgia. He lived in Snellville, GA most of his life. He was a devoted family man and a loving father, survived by his sons, Jeffrey Scott Ford (M’Linda) and John Carl Ford (Ashley), as well as his cherished grandchildren, Ciara Noelle Ford, Olivia Rose Ford, John Riley Lemons Jr. (Dinora), Ameriҫa Nicole Lemons and Justin Antonio-Evan Lemons, and his great-grandson, Justin Adam Alcocer.

Gene had a passion for classic cars, particularly his beloved 1957 Chevy Bel Air 2-Door Hardtop, which earned him numerous trophies and awards. He enjoyed fishing, listening to live bands, and indulging in long car rides. His favorite foods included hamburgers and hot dogs topped with ketchup, mustard, and onions, all washed down with an ice-cold, real Coca-Cola.

An avid Atlanta Braves fan, Gene shared this love for baseball with his wife, Syble Jean Ford. Gene’s other interests included watching movies, especially action films and movies like Thunder Road, Men in Black, Independence Day, and Ghostbusters, and television shows such as Blue Bloods, Baywatch, and The Andy Griffith Show. He loved all things Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton.

Gene is an Army Veteran. He also worked as an auto mechanic and lineman for General Motors for 30 years, and spent time working at Stone Mountain Corrections and Juhan Motors. He was a strong man who maintained an active lifestyle even in his later years. He exercised often on a stationary bike, used therapy bands, and weights to keep healthy. Gene loved to swing on the front porch, sipping his favorite drink.

He enjoyed traveling, with fond memories of the Eiffel Tower in France and summers spent at Panama City Beach and Orange Beach, where he loved staying on high floors to feel as if he were on a cruise. Music was important to Gene, with a particular fondness for Elvis Presley, Mack Davis, and any band his son, Jeffrey, played in. He also enjoyed a good game of pool.

In his final days, Gene reflected on his life and began to contemplate his faith, expressing his readiness to be with the Good Lord. His love for family, and genuine friendships will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Gene leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Syble Jean Ford, his father, Dallas Carl Ford, his mother, Jewell Bell Ford, his brothers, Kelly, Clifford, Dallas, and Blanchard Ford and his grand-daughter, Ameriҫa Nicole Lemons .
