George Harry Harrison

George “Harry” Harrison, born June 25, 1936, passed away on June 24, 2025, just one day shy of his 89th birthday. Born in Phenix City, Alabama, he was a beloved husband, stepfather, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, known for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and passion for playing softball.

Harry graduated from Central High School and went to Furman University on a full-ride football scholarship. After college, he went on to serve in the Army. This is where his love of softball began, when his captain recognized his athletic abilities and put him in charge of the Army softball team. Once honorably discharged, as a First Lieutenant, he worked in finances at Unisys until retirement.

Harry was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Harrison, and his first wife, Naomi Harrison. Through this union, he became a devoted stepfather to Naomi’s children, Linda Miller and Ned Ellerbe (Patricia), as well as a grandfather to Jason Dodson, Daniel Ellerbe, Jessica Miller, Jennifer Miller, Jami Miller, and Sean Miller. He has four great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

He is survived by one brother, Jimmy Harrison (Sylvia), and a niece and nephew, along with many great nieces and nephews.

Later in life, Harry found love again and married Kathy Walker, who survives him. He was a loving stepfather to Kathy’s daughter, Samantha Tutterrow (Alex) and grandfather to Hunter Tutterrow, Nathan Tutterrow, Annie Tutterrow and Sydney Tutterrow, whom he cherished dearly.

He had a lifelong love for softball where he played, coached, and organized teams well into his later years. Whether on the field or in the stands, Harry found community and camaraderie in the game he loved. He was known to be a protective and loyal friend and family member. His hobbies included: hunting, fishing, golf, and reading. He loved making people laugh. He may have been known as a prankster, back in the day. Harry loved the Lord with all his heart and lived his faith daily through quiet acts of love and kindness.  Whether with a warm smile, a helping hand, or a card with a word of encouragement, he made everyone feel seen and valued. His life was a reflection of God’s grace, and his legacy is one of compassion and love for all.

Harry’s warmth, steady presence, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at Wages and Sons Funeral Home at 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy. Lawrenceville, GA on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at 2PM. Visitation with family will be held at 1PM. Officiated by Danny Parks.
