George Pennell May

May 16, 1929 — February 11, 2013

George Pennell May, 83, of Lawrenceville, died peacefully Monday, February 11, 2013 at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth. Mr. May was a native of Asheville, NC. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mildred; his children, Melissa and David; grandchildren, Gwendalyn and Caitlin; daughter-in-law, Elaine, wife of Mr. May's late son, Charles; his brother, Glenn and sister, Nancy. Mr. May, a graduate of Wake Forest University, was the first man from North Carolina drafted into the United States Marine Corps for service in the Korean War. After his military service, Mr. May married and began his engineering career at America Enka in Asheville, NC. He accepted a position with IBM in 1955 and enjoyed a successful 30 year career in various cities across the country ending with his retirement in St Petersburg, FL. Mr. May was an avid Ham Radio Operator and a founding member of Holy Cross Anglican Church in Loganville, GA. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Holy Cross Anglican Church, 3836 Oak Grove Rd, Loganville, GA 30052 with Right Reverend Dr. Foley Beach officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Memorial Fund of Holy Cross or Peachtree Christian Hospice 3430 Duluth Park Ln., Duluth, GA 30096 are appreciated.
