George was born in Birmingham, AL. He was the son of Milo Smith Walton, Sr. and Evelyn Campbell Walton. George was married Judith Creagan Walton for 41 years. They shared two wonderful children, Joseph Walton and Kathrine (Kate) Walton Riescher, whom he cherished.
George loved life. His favorite location was on any beach, any time of the year. Christmas season was his favorite time of year. George was an avid Atlanta sports fan. He was a proud founding member of Atlanta United and attended almost every home game since the team’s inception. George loved gardening and yard work. He said more than once that he wished he had studied horticulture instead of math. He enjoyed playing tennis with his son and watching his daughter play soccer all the way through college. For over 15 years, Kate and George participated in the Peachtree Road Race, and he improved his running time every year. George loved musical theater and had season tickets to the Fox Theater America for 30 years. During his brief retirement, George and Judy traveled, and most recently were in Ireland and Scotland where George looked into his family history.
George is survived by his loving wife, Judy; son, Joseph; daughter Kate (Joe); sisters Betty Stephens (Paul) and Margaret Kane as well as many in-laws and nieces and nephews.
George donated blood on a regular basis. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in George’s memory to the American Red Cross.
