Jerry K. Christman
March 25, 1939 – January 12, 2019
Jerry Christman passed into God’s eternal care on Saturday, January 12, 2019 of complications following a stroke. She is survived by her children with their families: Tracy and Rudy Christman-König and Jay and Kristi Christman with her granddaughters Caylor, Connley and Camryn as well as her brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Chris Hartzell. She enjoyed her numerous nieces and nephews (Scott & Jackie, Jenny & Steve, Jeff & Nancy, Tammy & Glenn, Terri & Jim, Jill, Suzanne & Brad, Heidi & Ryley, Sara & Andrew and Lili & Matt) together with their children. She is preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents Willard and Evelyn Hartzell and her parents-in-law, Jim and Minnie Christman.
Jerry devoted her life to serving God and others, in her early years as an executive secretary, then as a wife of 38 years to Jim, as a mother and grandmother, and in service to many as a friend and counselor.
Jerry was a remarkable writer; using her gift to share words of love and encouragement in countless cards sent to friends and family members over the years. As a woman of faith, Jerry lived a life of love and caring for those around her. She was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church throughout her life, first at Salem Lutheran Church of Ellerton in Miamisburg, Ohio, then at Rock of Ages Lutheran in Stone Mountain, Georgia and finally at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Atlanta, Georgia. She invested her time and gifts in lay counseling, maintaining the church library and keeping the parish register for many years.
A faithful friend to many, Jerry maintained relationships going back to her school days in Jefferson Township in Ohio and including a broad network of friends in the Atlanta area. She cared for and visited the sick, helped friends in need and made sure no one was forgotten. Her cards and letters encouraged and ministered to many over the years.
As a mother and grandmother, she loved her family and supported them in whatever way possible. Whether caring for her three granddaughters weekly or visiting her daughter and son-in-law in Switzerland, she went above and beyond to stay in touch.
Jerry will be remembered for her kindness, her faith, her generosity, her attention to detail, her skill with numbers and finances, her love for plants and flowers, her love of family and her beautiful smile.
