Harold Carl Smolenski

Harold C. Smolenski, age 91, of Roswell, Georgia, passed peacefully away Monday, June 15, 2020 in Tucker, Georgia. Harold was preceded in death by his children’s mother, Janet “Jeannie” Fleming, brother Wilfred Smolenski, and sister Susan Smolenski. He is survived by sisters Urte Kahle, of Flowery Branch, Georgia;and Renate McKitrick of Ogden, Utah;his children Elizabeth Field (Michael) of Lilburn, Georgia; Ted Smolenski of Lawreneceville, Georgia; and Laura Smolenski, of Peachtree Corners, Georgia; and three grandchildren, Justin and Christopher Field; and Taylor Smolenski; and nieces and nephews.

Born in Shelbyville, IN, Harold was an avid tennis player and loved all sports. His job for many years was a tennis instructor and coach. He proudly worked in the pits of the Indy 500, reporting driver and car status to the announcers. He enjoyed music and arts of all kinds. Harold served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as an aerial photo analyst. When he could no longer play tennis he enjoyed woodworking, painting, cross stitch, and stained glass. His last job before retiring was a school bus driver for Fulton County Schools. He loved the kids he drove every day, and he always made them feel special and important. They all held a special place in his heart. He was a gentle and kind soul who loved to laugh and make others laugh. He will be greatly missed.

Services are being held Tuesday, June 23 at 11:30am at Georgia National Cemetery. The service is closed to the Smolenski family only due to the current Covid-19 pandemic and strict cemetery restrictions.
