Harry Joseph Hicks was born September 4th, 1935. He was the 4th child out of eight in his family. As a young child, his dream was to be a solder. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and served his country in Korea, Viet Nam, Germany, and multiple bases in the US. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1976. After his service to our country, he served the State of Georgia in the Labor Department for 20 years. He retired in 1996 and enjoyed his leisure years taking cruises, traveling around the US, fishing for trout, and spending time with his family.
Harry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Jo (Taylor) Hicks. They welcomed three children into the world – Catherine, Linda and Steven. They moved to Lawrenceville in 1972 and have lived in the same home ever since. He died peacefully at 5:20 am on November 18th, 2021 surrounded by his wife and children. He left his home draped by the flag that he served and honored throughout his life. He leaves behind his wife, his three children and their spouses, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, his youngest brother, and many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. He filled the room with his presence and will be missed by the many, many people who loved and respected him.
