Mr. Herbert Love Burrell, 82, passed away Monday, September 21, 2026 at home.
Mr. Burrell was born March 28, 1944 in Clarksville, GA to the late Herbert and Mable Love Burrell. Herbert Burrell, a devoted educator, school leader, and proud University of Georgia graduate and fan, passed away leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and love for the many lives he touched.
Mr. Burrell dedicated 37 years to education, devoting much of his distinguished career to serving as an elementary and middle school principal. He believed deeply in the importance of education and the difference a caring, committed educator could make in the life of a child. Through his leadership, guidance, and genuine concern for students, teachers, and families, he became a respected presence in the schools and communities he served.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Burrell was a man who took great pride in the things he loved. He was a devoted University of Georgia fan and enjoyed all things football. Saturdays were especially meaningful, as he could often be found cheering on the Bulldogs and sharing his enthusiasm for the game with family and friends. His love for UGA was more than a pastime—it was one of the many passions that brought him joy and connected him with those around him.
Mr. Burrell will be remembered not only for the years he devoted to education, but also for the kindness, wisdom, humor, and encouragement he shared with others. His influence reached far beyond the walls of the schools where he served, and the lessons he imparted will continue to live on through the countless students, educators, families, and friends whose lives he touched.
He leaves behind a lasting legacy of service, leadership, and love. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Catherine Hinson Burrell; daughter Michelle B. Cowan (Jeffrey); grandchildren Jacob Cowan and Sydney C. Meyer; great granddaughter Levi Jo Cowan; brothers Larry Burrell (Jackie), Doug Burrell (Brenda), and Ronnie Burrell.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Laura Jane Stephens.
