Howard Vance Lubben, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on May 10, 2024, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, after a brief illness. He was 84 years old.

Howard was born on March 31, 1940, in Grand Haven, Michigan, to Harm and Jeanette Lubben. He attended Grand Haven High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1963. Following his military service, Howard embarked on a distinguished career with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, where he worked to protect and conserve fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats. He served with the agency for 34 years until his retirement in May 1994.

A man of faith, Howard was an active member of Gwinnett Community Church in Lawrenceville, Georgia, where he found fellowship, support, and spiritual nourishment. He was deeply committed to his church community and cherished the friendships he formed there.

Howard was passionate about several hobbies and interests throughout his life. He was an avid golfer, finding joy and relaxation on the greens. He also possessed a talent for woodcarving, creating beautiful works of art with his skilled hands. A true sports enthusiast, Howard was a devoted fan of University of Michigan football, as well as Michigan’s professional football and baseball teams.

In addition to his pursuits, Howard was once a member of the Georgia Horseshoe Pitchers Association, showcasing his competitive spirit and love for the game.

Howard is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Treadwell Lubben, with whom he shared many cherished years. He is also survived by his sons, Ronald Lubben and Terry Lubben, along with Terry’s wife, Dawn. Howard’s memory will be cherished by his sister, Nancy Plantenga, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Vanderjagg Lubben, his parents, Harm and Jeanette Lubben, his sister Phyllis Fawcett, and his brother Rodney Lubben.

A visitation will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Wages and Sons Gwinnett Chapel, located at 1031 Lawrenceville Highway, Lawrenceville, GA 30046. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM, with interment to follow at 2:30 PM at Center Hill Baptist Church of Gratis, located at 2940 Gratis Rd., Monroe, GA 30656.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Gwinnett Community Church, located at 2516 Five Forks Trickum Road, Lawrenceville, GA 30044, in honor of Howard’s memory.
