Irl R. Chrisope, 93, died on Sunday, December 1, 2013.
Irl Roger Chrisope, Jr., was born March 10, 1920, at Hermitage, Missouri, the son of Irl and Elsie Chrisope. He attended Quincy and Hermitage grade schools and graduated from Forsyth High School, and also attended Kansas Teachers College and Jefferson City Junior College. Irl was married to Dorothy Loraine Fleming on June 17, 1941. In September 1941 he became employed by McDonnell Aircraft of St. Louis, which was his major employer for the rest of his working career. Irl enlisted in the Army Signal Corps reserves in November 1942, and entered active duty in the Army Air Corps in 1943. He served in the Pacific theatre of World War II, and was aboard one of the 400 B-29 bombers which flew over Tokyo during the signing of the instrument of peace aboard the U.S.S. Missouri on September 2, 1945. Irl and Dorothy returned to St. Louis where he worked for McDonnell Aircraft until 1972. They then moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where Irl worked with his brother Carl in the latter’s real estate law office. Dorothy died in September 1993 of Lou Gehrig’s disease. Irl retired from active work in 1994. He was married to Eileen Sentell on April 5, 1997, and enjoyed loving companionship with her during his later years. He was a devoted member of the Businessmen’s Bible Class at Briarlake Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia. Irl was diagnosed with lung cancer in September of this year, and died peacefully at home on Sunday morning, December 1.
Irl was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Rex and Carl, and one sister, Mildred. He is survived by one sister, Gladys Mabary; his beloved wife Eileen, of Lawrenceville, Georgia; three sons, Terry (Linda) of St. Charles, Missouri; Bruce (Patricia) of Springfield, Missouri; and Douglas (Tammy) of La Place, Louisiana; grandchildren Catherine Hampsch and Sarah Anderson; Bret and Michael Chrisope; Alex and Catherine Chrisope; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Wages & Sons Gwinnett Chapel.
