JAMES DANIEL JIM BARNARD, Sr. Lawrenceville, Georgia - James Daniel Barnard, Sr., Age: 56 passed away on Monday, March 21, 2011 at Eastside Heritage Center. Jim was born, June 28, 1954 at Anniston Memorial Hospital, Anniston, Alabama to the late John Richard Barnard Sr. & Frances K. Barnard. He was raised in Anniston and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in 1968 and Anniston High School in 1972. Jim was a Navy veteran serving a 4-year tour as a Machinist Mate. He attended Basic Training and Nuclear Propulsion School at the Naval Training Station, Orlando, Florida. His military service included duty in Charleston, South Carolina, Submarine School, New London, CT and Honolulu, HI. He served aboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN SSBN-602 and USS WABASH AOR-5. During a major West-Pac cruise aboard USS WABASH in 1976, he earned the distinction of a time-honored Naval tradition of "crossing the line" and becoming a Shellback. His military decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and Sea Service Ribbon. Jim was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1977. After military service, he continued his education earning a BS Degree from Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, Alabama and attended the University of Alabama for 2 years of post graduate school. His occupational careers ranged from retail store manager where he served for a number of years. He later changed careers to work for an Atlanta-based courier service where he served both as a courier and promoted to an administrative capacity in shipping and receiving department until his retirement. Jim loved music, family and spending time with his sons. He was a devoted father and loving husband. Jim leaves behind many friends dating back over 50 years with whom he remained in contact. During his illness, Jim's character, strength, courage, faith and even his unique sense of humor was revealed daily to all who knew him. Mourning his passing is his wife, Patti M. Barnard; two sons, James Daniel Barnard, Jr., Daytona Beach, FL and Spec4 Jason Wallace Barnard, U S ARMY, Ft. Eustice, VA; two brothers, John Richard Barnard, Jr Mary of Pell City, Alabama and William Edward Barnard Betty of Douglasville, GA. Services will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 10:00am at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Lawrenceville, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Lawrence Catholic Church or to your favorite charity.
