James “Sonny Boy” Montgomery was born May 12, 1944 in Kingstree, South Carolina. James attended Anderson Primary School and Tomlinson High School in Kingstree, South Carolina. His family relocated to Miami, Florida where he continued his education at George Washington Carver High School.
James worked several decades in the construction industry doing carpentry, painting, and installing tiles. After suffering an injury on the job, he began working at his father’s landscaping business.
Sonny Boy fully enjoyed his life. He always dressed to impress and lived life to the fullest. To know him was to love him. His smile would light up an entire room. And he had the ability to make people feel special. The void he left can NEVER be filled.
James’ wife, Sylvia Montgomery, and both parents, James Montgomery and Annie Lou Cooper (John), preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a sister Eula Mae Johnson (James), and two brothers Ernest Montgomery (Carrie Jean), and Charles Cooper (Bertha).
