James "Jim" Donald Mcglynn

James "Jim" McGlynn, 89, of Duluth passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019.  He was born on September 12, 1930, in Watervliet, New York to the late Michael and Margaret Kiernan McGlynn.  Jim graduated from New York State Maritime College with a degree in engineering.  Upon graduation he was commissioned into the United States Navy and eventually joined the Naval Reserve.  He later served in the Merchant Marines and was an engineer with United Fruit Company.  He then entered the insurance business and retired after 33 years with The Travelers Insurance Company. Jim was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church for 50 years.  He was an active member of the men's club and the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.  He also assisted fellow members in making the communion wine which they enjoyed sampling before it was blessed. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Marilyn Eaton; brothers, Raymond McGlynn, Frank McGlynn, William “Billy” McGlynn; and sister, Mary Bevins. Survivors include his constant companion of 18 years, Frieda Lippai, whom loved to travel with Jim; taking as many as 166 trips together. A few of their trips included Skid Row concerts where they enjoyed VIP status as the band's oldest groupies!; children, Colleen Wiggs (Mike), Christine Jackson (Jimmy), Stewart McGlynn ( Susan); grandchildren, Jennifer Jackson Wilson (Gary), Casey Jackson (Renee), Jessica Wiggs Owens (John), Rebecca Wiggs Adkins (Justin), Brendan McGlynn, Brian McGlynn; Great grandchildren, Jack, Jameson, Walker, Rhett, Taylor, Charli, Jordyn, Henry. In Lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim’s honor may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society at 4871 B. Memorial Drive Stone Mountain, Georgia 30083. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia, with a visitation taking place one hour prior, at 10:00 a.m. There will be a repass immediately following mass at the church.
