James “Jim” Bird, 79, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026 surrounded by his family, in Atlanta, Georgia. Born on January 7, 1947, in Hollywood, Florida, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Helen Bird.
Jim graduated with honors from Georgia Tech and went on to become a successful entrepreneur, founding two companies over the course of his career and becoming a published author. Above all, he was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, and friend who changed the lives of many, both through the businesses he built and through how he lived his life - generous with his time and wisdom, and possessing an incredible joy and optimism for life.
An avid salt-water sports fisherman, Jim loved spending time on the flats in South Florida, especially in Islamorada catching snook, bonefish and permit.
He is survived by his wife, Vikki Bird; his daughters, Kelly Bird-Keith and Amanda Bird Malko; his daughter-in-law, Niki Bird-Keith; his son-in-law, Robert Malko; his siblings Lloyd Bird, Mark Bird, and Jeanette Howard; and his two grandchildren, Brayden Bird-Keith and Miles Malko, who love their Papa.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later time. Those interested in attending may contact the family directly.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those who can, go fishing - and catch a big one for Jim.
May Jim’s memory bring comfort and peace to all who loved him.
