James A. Thomason

November 25, 1925 — May 5, 2013

James Alfred Thomason, age 87, of Stone Mountain passed away Sunday, May 5 after an extended illness. Funeral service will be held at Stone Mountain First Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 8 at 11 AM with Dr. Ellen Shepard officiating. Interment will follow at Stone Mountain Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the family home at 719 Howell Court in Stone Mountain on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 12 Noon-7:30 PM. Wages and Sons will be handling the funeral arrangements. Mr. Thomason is survived by his daughter, Pamela Thomason Kaveney, son-in-law, Chris Kaveney; granddaughter, Millianne; sister, Helen Thomason Goddard, all of Stone Mountain as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mildred "Millie" Brasseale Thomason and parents, Herman and Allene Baxter Thomason. Mr. Thomason was born in Stone Mountain to Herman Alexander and Allene Baxter on November 25, 1925. He attended Stone Mountain High School from which he graduated in 1944 prior to serving in World War 2 in the 65th Infantry Division. After the war he was stationed in Austria until his return to Stone Mountain, where he helped operate Pure Oil stations which were owned by the family, prior to beginning Thomason Trucking Co. Which operated in Georgia, South Carolina, Forida and Pennsylvania. Additionally, Mr. Thomason was a member of VFW and Stone Mountain Masonic Lodge. He also received a commendation from President John F. Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, when his company extended the runway at Tindall Air Force Base. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Hospice Atlanta and the CNA's who provided care for Mr. Thomason during this final days. He will remain in our hearts forever.
