Janie Lou Akins Ward

Janie Lou Akins Ward, of Decatur, GA, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Odyssey House hospice. She was born August 11, 1926 in Birmingham, AL and was the eldest child of Ulyes Elmer and Willie Louise Akins. Mrs. Ward graduated from the University of Alabama in 1948, and was married to Corlie Ward, Jr. of Gordon, GA in 1950. She retired from employment as a Systems Analyst for the Federal Government for whom she worked for more than 25 years. She was very active in the Presbyterian Church, USA throughout her life and PEO during her retirement. Mrs. Ward is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Clay Scarborough of Decatur, GA, daughter, Sandra Ward of Austin, TX, grandchildren, Kim, Bryan and Sarah Scarborough, and sister, Nancy Shrum of Birmingham, AL. She is preceded in death by her husband, Corlie Ward, Jr., son, Corlie Ward, III and brother, Gilbert Akins. A memorial service will be held at 3pm, Friday, June 15th in Scott Chapel at Decatur Presbyterian Church, 205 Sycamore Street, Decatur, GA 30030.
