Joan Alice Kane

Joan Alice Kane, lovingly known as "Joan Alice," passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, at the age of 82.

Born on June 22, 1944, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Joan dedicated her professional life to caring for others. After graduating from Hamburg High School, she pursued her passion for nursing at the Millard Fillmore School of Nursing in Buffalo, New York. She went on to enjoy a remarkable 40-year career as a Registered Nurse, faithfully serving her patients from 1964 until her retirement in 2009.

Joan loved the Lord and accepted Christ as her Savior; she found happiness in attending church during her time in Florida and later in life watching TBN for hours singing along with the Gaither family hymns. As a young mom, she got into the tennis scene at Woodridge Swim & Tennis Club in Stone Mountain, GA (she had a mean forehand return!) Her other duties included Woodridge Stingray practices, meets and making sure the kids were where they were supposed to be (or at least in one of three places, school, pool or the den). This was often after working a night shift at the hospital. She was at her best when one of her children became sick. We always knew she would be there to check our temperature, wait on us hand and foot and eventually bring that McDonald's meal when the sickness subsided. She had several sweet animals in her life that she doted on and who kept her company in her travels - her favorites being BJ, Ony (aka Football), Maggie & Cleo (her beloved cat). Many great times were spent shopping, going on vacation with her youngest sister Mary Beth & her family Ed, Matthew and Clayton, who held a special place in her heart.

Joan is survived by her loving daughter, Jennifer Ann Disotell (Tim); her sons, Timothy Eugene Kane (Joni) and Daniel Patrick Kane (Chihaya); her brother, Robert Wheeler; her sisters, Donna Horton (John) and Mary Beth Gilchrist (Ed). She also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren (Joe, Whit, Allison, Katie & Taiki) and one beloved great-grandchild (Jenny Lynn), all of whom will forever treasure her love, silliness, and unwavering support.

Like all of us, she was a person of many chapters. She will be remembered for the love she gave as a mother, the lives she touched, and the unique journey she traveled throughout her life. She leaves behind cherished memories and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and everyone whose life was brightened by her beautiful smile. Rest easy mom.
