Joan Phipps Masterson June 6, 1930 – January 18, 2026

Joan Phipps Masterson, age 95, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, peacefully entered her heavenly home on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

Born on June 16, 1930, in New York City, Joan lived a life rooted in faith, service, and love for her family. She dedicated many years of her professional life as a social worker, teacher, and guidance counselor, retiring from the Providence School Department, where she was known for her compassion and commitment to helping others. Joan graduated from Howard University, and went back and got her masters in education while living in Rhode Island. 

In her free time, she found joy in knitting, working crossword puzzles, watching Law & Order, and cooking—especially her beloved lasagna. Above all, she cherished time spent loving and caring for her family.

Joan was preceded in death by her devoted husband of more than 50 years, Lloyd Masterson. She is survived by her sons, Greg Masterson and Timothy Lloyd Masterson Jr., both of Stone Mountain, Georgia. and granddaughter Alicia Charyce Masterson, and grandson Nicholas Masterson.

A service to honor and celebrate Joan’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, in State Rooms A & B at Wages & Sons Stone Mountain Chapel, located at 1040 Main Street, Stone Mountain, GA 30083.
