Joan Elease Nicholson

NICHOLSON Mrs. Joan Elease Jones Nicholson of Lithonia, died Sunday, June 16, 2013 at home. Mrs. Nicholson was born in Rome, GA on August 5, 1943. The daughter of the late Catherine Elease Smith/Jones Clements and Arthur Hoover Jones. She went to Cosmetology School, worked at Macy's and the state owned Garden Room Restaurant in downtown Atlanta before becoming a small business owner. She and her husband operated Nicholson's Used Auto Parts in Lithonia, GA for 20 years before retiring in 2001. She underwent a successful liver transplant in September, 2012. However, she passed away from cancer in the stomach lymph nodes which had been passed from the old liver and was not detected until March. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Arthur Anson Andy Jones 1991 and Ranson Randy Clarence Jones 2009. She is survived by her husband Donice Melvin Nicholson; her daughter, Holly Denise Burt of Lithonia; two grandsons, Shelby Lamar Burt 18 and Kendall Cruz Burt 12, both of Lithonia; sister, Candace Jones of Lafayette, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Brenda Jones of Easley, SC; sister-in-law, Karen Jones of Lithia Springs; other survivors include five nieces & nephews, ten great nieces & nephews, five great-great nieces & nephews and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Family and friends can contact Candy Jones at 404 556-2633 for further information. The family will receive friends on Monday and Tuesday, from 2-4 pm & 6-8pm at the funeral home. Services will be held at 2pm Wednesday, June 19, 2013 in the Chapel of Wages & Sons Funeral Home on Main Street in Stone Mountain. Interment will be at Crest Lawn Memorial Park in Atlanta.
