Joan Self, age 88, of Braselton, Georgia, passed away on September 12, 2025. She was born on June 29, 1937, in Greenville, South Carolina.
Joan was a proud graduate of Georgia State University and the Art Institute of Atlanta. She was a gifted artist who enjoyed painting throughout her life, and she shared her talents and creativity with many. She also loved music and was a member of the Decatur Civil Chorus. A woman of strong faith, she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville.
She worked for many years as an administrator for various construction companies, where she was valued for her professionalism and dedication.
Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Normal Self, and her daughter-in-law, Sue Williamson.
She is survived by her son Lionel Dangerfield, Jr., daughter Priscilla Boss, daughter-in-law Karen Dangerfield, son Chip Self, daughter-in-law Mandy Self; son-in-law Tom Williamson; and her granddaughters, Lauren Dangerfield and Heather Dangerfield. She was deeply loved by her family and will be remembered for her kindness, grace, and devotion to those closest to her.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, from 10:00–10:30 AM at Gwinnett Memorial Park, 925 Lawrenceville Hwy., Lawrenceville, GA 30046.
Joan’s life was a reflection of faith, family, and creativity. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
