John Benson Derdeyn

John Benson Derdeyn, age 83 of Tucker, GA, passed away at his residence on Monday, November 12, 2018. He was married to Doris Becker Derdeyn for 52 years until her passing in 2011. He is survived by his children John M. Derdeyn and wife Kathleen, Thomas G. Derdeyn, Cynthia A. Derdeyn and her son Grant Derdeyn-Blackwell. Mr. Derdeyn was born in Vicksburg, MS on June 2, 1935. He graduated from LSU with an accounting degree and served in the US Navy. He was retired from a long career with the Internal Revenue Service. He was an avid handball player, enjoyed collecting antiques, and was a longtime member of Athletic Club Northeast. Mr. Derdeyn also enjoyed college football, old movies, classical music, and staying up on current events. He was known for his playful sense of humor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Atlanta Humane Society, honoring his love of dogs.
