John Gombala Jr, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 79, Friday, June 26, 2020.
John was born February 20, 1941 in Gibson, PA, the son of the late Emma (Koscso) and the late John Gombala. John had one sibling, the late Nancy Gombala (Lannon-Boggs). He was an Engineering graduate of Pittsburgh Technical College (formerly Pittsburgh Technical Institute), and just recently celebrated fifty wonderful years (1970 – 2020) of marriage to Gloria Jean Gombala (Sematic).
He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Knox, the former home of the U.S. Army Armor Center. John was an active lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7923 and the 4th Degree Assembly 2475.
His career spanned from working on the Titan Nuclear Missile Silos, owning a technical services company to owning and operating a boat shop. Upon moving to Georgia, he was Vice President of a technical services firm until his retirement. He spent his retirement managing the campground at Stone Mountain Park.
He was an avid Steelers fan, enjoyed several NASCAR trips, RVing with his wife as well as many camping trips with his family. John and his family spent many years boating on Lake Lanier. He was a member of the Family Motor Coach Association, and he was on their Commercial Council representing U.S. campgrounds.
John is survived by his wife, Gloria Jean Gombala (Sematic) and their children, daughter Sherri Gombala of Clayton, GA.; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Crystal Gombala of Lawrenceville, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Beth Gombala of Philadelphia, PA.; grandchildren, Salvatore, Magdelyn (Maggie), Evangeline (Lily) Gaglio of Clayton, GA; Caleb and Emma Gombala of Lawrenceville, GA, and 9 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 pm, Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Wages and Sons Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, GA. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:00 am, July 1, 2020 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Lilburn, GA officiated by Fr. Sunny Punnaknziyil, M.S.F.S. Interment will follow in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Flowery Branch,GA at 1:30 pm.
