Dr. John M. Minter, 83, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2015. Reverend Minter was the beloved husband of Ann Steed Minter for 63 years. Dr. Minter, the son of the late Reverend and Mrs. P. Merrill Minter, was born in Locust Grove, Georgia. Reverend Minter attended Emory at Oxford, Emory University, and Emory School of Theology and spent over 40 years preaching the word of God in churches throughout the North Georgia conference of the United Methodist Church. His appointments were: Rome Circuit, Shiloh, St. John, Sharp Memorial at Young Harris College, McDonough First, St. James- Athens, Newnan First, St James- Atlanta, and Peachtree Road. Dr. Minter was appointed twice as District Superintendent of churches in the Atlanta area. Dr. Minter is survived by his wife, Ann Steed Minter; sister, Ann Snead Reed; sons: John David Minter (Sue), J. Mark Minter (Dee), Steve M. Minter (Becky) and Paul R. Minter; 8 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 3 , 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church, 4400 Peachtree Dunwoody Rd. Atlanta, Ga., with visitation following. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Timothy United Methodist Church, 5365 Memorial Dr., Stone Mountain, GA. 30083 as they strive to be a Shalom Zone.
