Joseph Hanewich II 1943-2021

Joseph Hanewich II, age 77 of Stone Mountainm, GA. passed away on June 17th after a long illness with Congestive Heart failure.

Joe was born on August 5th, 1943 to Gladys Mitchell and Joseph Hanewich in Newburgh, New York. He graduated from Valley Central High School in 1962. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy where he earned E4 status and played trumpet in the Navy band.

He landed his first job at The Bank of New York, and later worked as a Collections manager for GC Services, where he was promoted and relocated to Georgia in 1981.

He married his high school sweetheart, Joan Altizio, in 1968, going on to have two children, Shawn and Dina.

He retired as a General Contractor doing what he loved, carpentry. His past times included hunting, watching the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs, playing Texas Hold ‘Em, throwing darts, and shooting pool.

Joe was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Hanewich & Gladys Mitchell. He is survived by son Shawn Hanewich, of Buford, GA, daughter Dina Hanewich, of Tucker, GA, grandson Trevor Hanewich of Daytona, FL., brothers David Mitchell of Derry, NH, and Henry Hanewich, and sister Pamela Smollen.

A Memorial service will take place Saturday, June 26 at 2:00pm. Wages & Sons Funeral Home 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy. Lawrenceville, GA 30046

Interment will be at the military cemetery in Canton, Ga.
