Joseph William Wilson (Joe), 86, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away April 3, 2015. Born February 17, 1929 in Fairfield, AL, Joe attended Jones Valley High School and graduated from Auburn University in 1950 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Joe was a member of Lamda Chi Alpha fraternity and the Navy ROTC while at Auburn, and joined the US Navy following graduation. During active duty, Joe proudly served in the Korean and Vietnam wars, and commanded several ships. Joe retired from the US Navy at the rank of Captain following a distinguished 30 year career. After retirement from the US Navy, Joe worked for Southern Company Services in Birmingham for 15 years as a Hydroelectric and Nuclear Power Engineer.   Joe enjoyed traveling, model railroading, and being with family. He was an avid Auburn fan and didn’t miss a game for over 27 years. Joe was a man of faith who loved his family and was blessed with a multitude of friends.   Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years, Mary Herrin (Polly) of Lawrenceville, GA. Other survivors include Wilda Wilson of Hoover, AL; sons, Michael Wilson of Slidell, LA; Stephen Wilson & wife, Lisa, of Madison, AL; daughters, Patricia Mills of Hoover, AL; Sandra Ducette & husband, Richard, of Alabaster, AL; grandchildren: Brett, Wayne, Trevor, Lindsey, Andrew, Bryan, Joey and Michael; great grandchild, Carter; Brothers, Keith Wilson and wife Doris of Huntsville, AL, and Reverend Jack Wilson of Huntsville AL. Joe’s family also included step-children, Jim Landers & wife, Debbie, of Atlanta, GA; Marie Cain & husband, Wayne, of Dacula, GA; Gerry Landers of Tucker, GA; Janine Lemmings husband, Paul, of Lawrenceville, GA; Alan Landers & wife, Karrin, of Marietta, GA; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and his adoring dog, Charlie.   A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 11, 2015 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 319 Grayson Hwy, Lawrenceville GA 30046 with Father Rey Pineda serving as celebrant. Interment, with full military honors, will be at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL at a later date. In lieu of flowers, you may consider a gift, in memory of Joe, to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, ATTN: Development, 875 N. Randolph St., Suite 225, Arlington, VA 22203.
