On January 12, 2026, Judy Rose French (Silva) died at home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 73 years old.
She was born on April 23, 1952, in Somerset, MA, the eldest daughter of the late Manuel and Maria Silva. She is mourned by her husband, Chuck French; daughters Nicole (Will) and Danielle (Caity); and three cherished granddaughters.
Judy lived the first half of her life among family in her home community in Massachusetts. She lived the second exploring the southeast. After a brief jaunt in Florida, she raised her girls in North Carolina, moved to Virginia, where she found love and married, before retiring near her granddaughters in Georgia. Despite her many homes and travels, she remained a proud Massachusetts girl at heart.
Judy was a passionate advocate for others and lived her adult life in the service of passion-fueled careers. For many years, she channeled her lifelong love for gardening and creative talents into a successful career as a florist. Later, she served her community as a long-term care social worker and admissions director, helping countless families through the end-of-life process. In her free time, she made magic in the childhoods of the many Girl Scouts in her community as a troop leader and dedicated volunteer.
Judy was equal parts fierce and loving. Strong as steel, she was stalwart in the face of life’s many trials. But she was deeply devoted, nurturing, and protective of those lucky enough to be in her good graces. She loved flowers, gardening, practical jokes, the color blue, tackling DIY projects, pasta, and above all else, her girls.
Judy left a simple wish for her loved ones. Don’t wait. Don’t delay joy. Don’t plan for more time to do what you want with your one precious life. If you find yourself reading this, or missing Judy, please honor her memory by honoring that wish.
Following her instructions, there will be no service at this time. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to our I AM ALS fundraiser, established in her memory: https://iamals.donordrive.com/campaign/Judy-French. Judy was (rightfully) furious with her ALS diagnosis and would be eternally grateful for your support in our quest to end this horrible disease.
