Judith Ann Osterhout Mooney Knapp (82) passed away peacefully at her home in Conyers, Georgia on March 10, 2026. The only daughter of the late Robert and June Osterhout, she was born May 30, 1943, in Watervliet, New York and resided there into her early 20s when she married and traveled the world as a military officer’s wife raising three sons. Judy was a faithful Christian early in life and worked as the Rock of Ages Lutheran Church (Stone Mountain, GA) secretary for several years, but a trip to Medjugorje, in the former Yugoslavia, changed her life forever.
Upon her return to the States, she worked as a drug and addiction counselor while completing her Bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University. She then entered Trinity Lutheran Seminary where she earned her Master of Divinity degree and was consecrated as a diaconal minister. God led her to take a chaplain position at Pulaski State Women’s Prison in south Georgia where she helped untold women find their faith and a new life path. Along the way, she met her late husband, Douglas Knapp, and they enjoyed many wonderful years together. Judy loved her ever growing family more than anything and she will be truly missed by all. Judy is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Daniel and Janice Osterhout, her sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Bonnie Mooney, Sean and Kathleen Mooney, Tim and Debbie Mooney; grandchildren and spouses, Zoe (Mooney) and Tristan Keeter, Haley Mooney, Trevor Mooney and Raggy Bjarnadottir, Sean Mooney II, Amber (Mooney) and Chris Milligan, Jordan (Mooney) and Jared Hulsey; great-grandchildren Atli Mooney, Alba Mooney, Brooke Hulsey and Mason Hulsey.
Her celebration of life will be Friday June 12th from 11:00 to 11:30am at her church, Rock of Ages Luthern Church (5135 Memorial Dr, Stone Mountain, GA 30083). There will be a reception immediately following the ceremony in the church fellowship hall. She will be interned at the Honey Creek Woodlands in Conyers GA at 3pm.
