Lenore (Lennie) Avery Dixon Vaux

August 6, 1932 — June 7, 2026

Lenore (Lennie) Avery Dixon Vaux of Lawrenceville died June 7, 2026. Lennie was an elementary school teacher until the arrival of her first born, when she became the in-home childcare provider for the five which followed. She was active through her many moves with the family. In Puerto Rico, she used her teaching stills to provide GED evening classes for Army recruits. In Florida, she was a cub scout leader for her favorite son. And, in Georgia, she was a school volunteer, providing reading help for students in elementary schools.

A self-taught and excellent seamstress, Lennie loved to sew for herself and her daughters, and always made sure all patterned material, especially stripes and plaids, matched perfectly along the seam line. She was an avid Bridge player and was involved in many Bridge clubs, and she always enjoyed playing Bridge with her siblings during the Summer. And active member of church, Lennie was very happy to make Central Congregational United Church of Christ in Atlanta, Georgia her home. She stayed busy through Women’s Fellowship, Plymouth Circle, and the Church choir, and she loved to perform in many church plays back in the day.

With six children, she played the role of chauffeur and was avid fan of her kids’ sports. Her fandom continued as she had grandchildren. In fact, while she always loved baseball and the Braves, she became a soccer fan when she was introduced to the sport by her grandkids.

As her children grew, Lennie started to take care of other children in her home, with the requirement that the parents were “teachers”, because she treasured her summers up at the Shore, and she wanted to make sure she had the Summers “off”. She loved being up in Amherst Shore seeing her siblings, cousins, and friends. While at the Shore, she spent a portion of most every day sitting with her sister talking about everything and everyone and maybe completing a cryptoquote or two. And, as previously mentioned, many nights were spent playing Bridge.

Lennie loved life. In addition to all the above, one of her greater joys was the gathering of all her children and their families. This was notably evident when she would buy season passes to the Alliance theater and the Gwinnett Braves (Stripers) games. She knew her kids would join her, and they did! And, for many years, she planned Thanksgiving ‘getaways’ in the mountains for her family to gather as they were able – whether it was for the full long weekend or a day or two. Being together was important to her.

Lennie was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Vaux, Jr. She leaves behind her six children Corkey (John) Hoffman, Carol Osborn, Jane (Peter) Brown, Joe D. (Christina) Vaux, Leslie (Doug) White, and Lenore (Rob) Meeks, 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Parc of Duluth and Delmar Gardens in Lawrenceville. And they would like to extend a special note of heartfelt gratitude to Laura Woth, who took excellent care of Lennie, giving her extra years of happiness, playing Bingo, listening to the music entertainment, watching Braves games, and visits from her children.
