Linda Iler-Dick

May 2, 1942 — May 9, 2024

Linda Iler-Dick, formerly Linda Hodnett, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024. A lifelong resident of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Linda resided in her cherished home for 64 years and was deeply rooted in her community.

Linda dedicated over 22 years of her life to serving the students and staff of Gwinnett County Public Schools before finding joy in working alongside her daughter at Workplace Health Services for an additional 5 years. She retired from her career after meeting her second husband, Robert, with whom she shared many happy years.

A faithful member of Lawrenceville First Baptist Church, Graystone Church and more recently Bethlehem Church, Linda found solace and strength in her faith. She was a proud resident of Lawrenceville, raised on the same road where she and her first husband, J.R. Iler, built their home and started their family on land gifted by her grandparents from the Wages estate. Linda refused to be driven out by progress on her road, embodying resilience and determination to live out her life there.

Linda was the epitome of a devoted mother, attending countless sports events, coaching many championship softball teams, cheerleading practices, competitions, beauty pageants, and horseback riding with her three daughters. Her unwavering love and support knew no bounds, extending to her grandchildren and great-grandson, whom she adored with all her heart.

A fearless truth-teller, Linda’s presence was a constant source of joy and comfort to her family. As the matriarch, she held her family together with love, wisdom, and strength. She and both of her late husbands will be remembered as extremely generous in many ways.

Linda was preceded in death by her first husband of over 37 years, J.R. Iler, her second husband of over 17 years, Robert Dick, parents, Annie Lois Wages-Hodnett and Albert “AB” Hodnett, her step-mother Alicia Hodnett, and her sister, Patricia Ann Swikard.

She is survived by her daughters, Belynda Anne Johnson of Lawrenceville, GA, Janice Alicia Neese of Lawrenceville, GA, and Wanda Lynn Johnson and her beloved husband Randy Johnson of Lawrenceville, GA, along with her brother, Bobby “B.G.” Hodnett of Gainesville, GA, and her cherished grandchildren Rachael DeAnne Johnson of Lawrenceville, GA, Robert Christopher Matt of Jefferson, GA, Brittany Raye Neese of Lawrenceville, GA, and Austin Lee Neese of Buford, GA. She leaves behind her beloved great-grandchild, Zander Kyle Matt, Jefferson, GA.

A funeral service to honor Linda’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Wages and Sons Gwinnett Chapel, with visitation beginning one hour prior. Following the service, Linda will be laid to rest at Gwinnett Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bethlehem Church in Bethlehem, Georgia, for the new campus worship center and music department https://bethlehemchurch.us/give , or to a favorite animal rescue/shelter, reflecting Linda’s passion for helping animals in need. Linda leaves behind her cherished pets she saved, including her 17-year-old black Persian cat, Dude, and her loyal German Shepherd, Bear.

Linda’s legacy of love, resilience, and compassion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family, friends, and community.
