It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lisa Renee (Smith) Burton, age 64, of Auburn, Georgia, who passed away on March 9, 2026.
Lisa was born on January 10, 1962, in Columbus, Georgia, to Clara Annette Smith and Joel David Smith. She attended Berkmar High School and later earned her nursing degree from West Georgia Technical College.
On August 1, 2000, Lisa married the love of her life, Jimmy Burton. They shared a loving marriage of 25 years together. Lisa was a woman of strong faith who enjoyed attending church and living out her faith through kindness and service to others.
Lisa had an incredibly compassionate heart. She loved helping people and dedicated much of her life to caring for others through her work as a nurse. She also had a deep love for animals and would never turn away an animal in need. Her caring nature and generous spirit touched the lives of many.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Clara Annette Smith; her brother, Warren David Smith; and her nephew, Brandon Harper.
Lisa is survived by her devoted husband, Jimmy Burton; her daughters, Amanda M. (Trey) Perry, Alison B. Burton, and Amanda M. Black; and her son, Matthew J. (Mandi) Burton.
She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Buster (Cheney) Perry, Joshua (Aubrey) Perry, Lily Perry, McKenzie Burley, Addison Black, Brady (Kaitlyn) Jackson, and Brownie Burton. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Lenora Perry and Ellison Jackson.
She is also survived by her father, Joel David Smith; her brother, Joel Ray (Debby) Smith; her sister, Melanie Smith; three nieces; two nephews; and a host of extended family members and dear friends who will cherish her memory.
Lisa was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026, with the funeral service to follow from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Wages & Sons Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Georgia. A burial service will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Auburn City Cemetery in Auburn, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or the Paw Project of Georgia, two causes that were close to Lisa’s heart.
