Louis Gene King

October 19, 1948 — August 17, 2025

On Sunday, August 17, 2025, our Heavenly Father suddenly called home to Glory our beloved Louis Gene King, affectionately known to many as “Papa Lou.”

Louis was born on October 19, 1948, in Mobile, Alabama, to the late John and Ethel (Osborne) King. A native of Mobile, he began his Christian journey as a member of St. Louis Missionary Baptist Church.

He graduated from Williamson High School in 1967 and went on to further his education at the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1968 and Troy State University in 1969. Shortly after, Louis was drafted into the United States Army, where he faithfully served his country for two years.

Louis had a big heart, a warm smile, a non-stop sense of humor and a spirit that drew people to him. Known as “Papa Lou” to his family, he cherished children deeply, and in turn, children adored him. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and love to those around him.

He enjoyed watching sports of every kind, had a passion for gardening and the outdoors, a flair for cooking whether it was grilling, deep frying or preparing a delicious meal, and he remained socially and politically aware throughout his life. Always ready to lend a hand, Louis never hesitated to step in when someone was in need.

Louis retired from Averitt Trucking Company after many years of dedicated service. It was there that he met the love of his life, Adele A. King in 1999, with whom he shared 22 beautiful years of marriage.

Papa Lou will be remembered for his generosity, love for family, and the countless lives he touched. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He leaves to cherish memories a loving, caring and most devoted wife, Mrs. Adele A. King; a devoted daughter, Tesa King of Stone Mountain, GA; a devoted son, Vincent King of Stone Mountain; a devoted daughter, Tereda Allen of Winder, GA; a devoted son, Shone Allen, Joplin, MO; and a devoted daughter, Taneisha Allen, Atlanta, GA; two brothers: Mr. Earl Osborne of Coffeeville, AL; Mr. Billy J. (Dorothy) King, Sr. of Montgomery, AL; two sisters-in-law: Audrey King, and Wanda King of Mobile, AL; a loving aunt, Mrs. Lorene (Curtis) Watts, a devoted uncle, Mr. Herrie Reed of Mobile; a dedicated and devoted nephew, Pastor Billy J. (Vickie) King, Jr. of Saraland, AL; devoted nephew John King III of Mobile, AL; Kevin King of Montgomery, AL; Kendar (LaQuinta) King of Montgomery, AL; Terrence Childs, Military; devoted nieces: Mrs. Tamika (Willie) Blanks of Smyrna, GA; Kiara King of Houston, TX; Dr. Alexis King, St Cloud, FL; Tanya Childs, Newark, NJ; Thirteen grandchildren: Tanner Currington, Deon Allen, Corey Allen, DeMarques Williams, Nicole Allen, Samira Allen, Johnathan Allen, Kyla Allen, Tyree Allen, Kamiah Allen, Jordan Allen, Akira Allen, and Xaniyah Allen; fourteen great-grandchildren: Harmony, Kam, PJ, Brice, Courtney, Kayla, Ava; Dalana, Samir, Evalina, Zuri, Geneya, Tayden, Tyree, Jr. and a host of other relatives and friends.
